Ok...i had an Etchie listed on Ebay and i had someone ask me if i could do a CM etch of their stallion.

The horse is a grandson of Zippo Pine Bar and she want's him done on that mold. This offer sounds great to me...he isn't too detailed in his markings so i know it is something i could most likely do....BUT, her horse has no white on the legs and the Zippo Breyer does. Now my problem comes in that i'm not the greatest at painting...i can do the pinking on the nose and stuff like that...but when it comes down to actual body color and all that i would rather have an already painted horse to etch.

Now my question is....how hard would it be to get that one leg painted to match zippo's color? Is this something i could do...or should i just give up and say no?

Wellllll... I say be honest with the client. Explain that you may not be able to match the coat color in order to cover up the white leg. There is no shame in saying you are a better etcher than painter, lord no! I have not the patience to etch so my hat goes off to you.

Then let the client decide. Either she says forget about the white sock and let it stay, or agrees to let you "try" to cover it but no promises. Or let the client make the call to cancel the whole deal based on your honest assesment of the situation.

Being honest will be remembered - and I betcha that even if this order ends up cancelled, you *will* be remembered as a responsible artist and called upon for another piece.
