I have been working diligently on KR the past few days and wanted to share how she is coming along. I am really pleased with the results so far. I added more muscling on her forearms and gaskins, plus I tipped her ears back a bit and defined her head. The biggest change, though, was the tail! I found a great photo in one of the magazines given to me by Dana Niday (thanks Dana!) that I thought I would modify KR to look like the horse I found. I think it softened her look a bit. What do you think of her now?

You know, it's amazing the difference a few subtle changes make-- not in my opinion of the horse, but in the "type" of horse she is. I LOVE LOVE LOVE :adore both versions. The first is more of a Ladies' type mare-- very delicate and "feminine," and now she's more of an Amateur or Open type horse, but still very much a mare. In her first incarnation, she was a shoe-in for the Ladies' 5-Gaited World Grand Championship trophy. Now she's a shoe-in for the Open Mare 5-Gaited WC trophy! I swear, the best ASB trainers out there would just be fighting over her (either version!) tooth and nail, and I'd be right in there with them! :drool

:cheer Debbi!

Well, I haven't posted any on KR as I'm just not a SB person, and from the first pics I thought she was really nice, but not really one I would want to buy. But when I saw these pics, wow, I love the difference those little changes made! I wouldn't mind having one of these girls! I *love* all the details. Congratulations, and thank you Debbie for sculpting such a gorgeous, correct mare.

HA!! You will probably think that this is odd, but the "mare" was a gelding named Sportster!, ridden by Kate Bryan, owned by Cash and Parker Lovell of North Carolina! I really liked the way the movement brought the tail forward and made the horse look like it was being propelled forward more than with the straighter tailset.

The photo that I found of him would be a great pose for the Three Gaited ASB in a trot. I really was taken by the pose!!! What do you think of him for a Three Gaited ASB?

Okay, going to be totally frank here...(don't worry, it's positive!)

I absolutely ADORE it, Debbi! And to be truthful, this is the first of your sculptures I've really fallen for. I like Aisha a lot, and VL as well, but honestly? Their tails always kept me from wanting to buy one. (Still, Aisha will always be my favorite Arab mare..)

When I first saw KR, I just didn't like her. Period. Not my cup of tea at all, and I shrugged it off and moved on. But now, with all the changes you've made, I'm just amazed! I wish she were being released at a later time when I could afford to buy one, because lord, would I love to have one! I liked her when I saw the IP photos on the other thread, but now, with that tail refined, I'm just amazed. I can't believe it's the same horse, because man, everything about her jumps out at me! If there was one thing I would change, it would be to soften up the really huge flourish at the bottom of the tail - just because now that the top is refined, it looks a little "unbalanced" (I'd be thinking that the tail head would be heavier because of the way it's set. More layers of hair, thus it would be fuller than the end.) But I do understand needing more volume at the bottom of the tail so she can stand on the two legs, so it really doesn't bother me that much!

I LOVE her, I really do! Maybe I can rationalize purchasing one. I'll have to think about it...

I appreciate your comments, good or otherwise. I will see what I can maybe do to soften the bottom of the tail. I do need more at the bottom so it will be strong enough to support her, but I might be able to shave off some a bit. I've been working on her in the studio softening muscles and her face. She is really looking nice. I'm glad to see that most people have given me the chance to improve her to more people's liking. That is one of the reasons I am hesitant to show a sculpture when it is so rough. Most people view it as finished when it has a long way to go yet.

These sculptures are like my children which I create with love and they look much better after I've put a fair amount of time into them than when they are a few hours old.

She looks even better! Every detail just brings her out completely. She looks very feminine but still strong... What a perfect lady's horse!

All in all I love her! :lol

Debbi :)

He's a great one to use as a 3-Gaited horse! The only thing is that I *think* in he's actually low backed. Not that you can tell unless he's stripped, though! He is really stunning. I know the woman who used to own him, and I could ask her for some photos of him if you wanted them! He's one of my favorites-- Hollywood Excellence, Callaway's County Fair, Page Me and To Die For (although he's WAY low backed) are some of my other favs, but I haven't been to a big show since Louisville '02, so Robin would probably be a better one to ask for who's "hot" now!

Hi ladies! Sportster is cool! And he's a very good 3 gaited horse, but Kate's right-- I think he's a little lowbacked, but you can always work around that. There are some really nice horses out there right now! Some of the great 3-gaited horses at Louisville have been:

CH Winter Day (retired last year), gorgeous big bay (they spelled his name wrong in this pic)
http://community.webshots.com/photo/49026215/49835615YPKRMf

CH My Front Page Lady (also retired last year; I have several pics of this mare since she was stabled at Premier, but she was a bit low-backed too)

CH Americana's Jazzman (at Premier!)
http://www.saddlehorsereport.com/contenders.aspx?world=true&wc=45

CH Lady Periana (at Premier!)
http://www.saddlehorsereport.com/contenders.aspx?world=true&wc=44

CH Yes Its True
http://www.saddlehorsereport.com/contenders.aspx?world=true&wc=42

CH Hollywood Excellence
http://www.saddlehorsereport.com/contenders.aspx?world=true&wc=283

And I know that he's a gaited horse but I just had to share this photo. This is CH Moonchance that I dearly love. He has the best "look through the bridle expression"/"look of eagles" that I've ever seen captured in a photo!
http://www.saddlehorsereport.com/contenders.aspx?world=true&wc=235

And I used to show CH Chat in equitation years ago, and I would love to have a sculpture that I could have painted like him. He's 23 this yr!

Debbi, you really just need to come to Louisville for the World Championships!! The show starts Sunday, August 22nd and runs morning, afternoon and evening through Saturday, August 28th. There's everything from weanling to pleasure equitation horses to open gaited horses.

If you can't get to Louisville though, the American Royal is in Kansas City, MO from November 16-20th:

Oooh... I forgot about Yes It's True! He's a great one. And Phillipa's horses, too!

Moonchance was a stunner, too, wasn't he? I wish they hadn't retired him-- he had a few good years left! I'll never forget that face!

And I didn't know you showed Chat! I LOVE him! He's sooo cute and such a little trooper! I rode him once years ago when I was about 14 and went to Premier camp one summer, before I started at DeLovely-- he's such a cutie! :D

Yeah, Phillipa has a NICE showstring! :wow And Jazzman sired some babies before they gelded him a few years back. They're doing pretty well from what I understand.

I showed Chat when he was one of Premier's lesson horses in some tournament equitation classes, so nothing super-fancy. But of course he didn't know the difference! He never backed an ear and was always "on". He made me look great and I wasn't that good! I always felt like I was on the green shavings at Louisville when I rode Chat. I'd love to have one of his grandbabies eventually! :)

I waited to hear back from Robin Poehlein and Anna Tackett on the new changes to Kentucky Reign before showing her off publically and now that I've heard back from both of them :thumbsup (I already got an enthusiastic thumbs up from Heather Abounader:thumbsup ), I wanted to share her new look with The Blab. I'm close to doing the finishing touches on her (lots of smoothing and detail work), but the basic shape is now there and I'm very happy with her! The first two photos are of the changes done to the mare. I hope to take some close-ups in a couple of days of more detail work done on her. Check her out at the link below:
