I have a dumb question-if you entered a model in the summer show, can you reenter it in the autumn show (because of its collectability)?

I have a dumb question-if you entered a model in the summer show, can you reenter it in the autumn show (because of its collectability)?

That's a great question! Yes, absolutely, you can enter a Summer show entry in the Autumn show, wherever it is eligible. No conflict or crossover between the two shows.

For what it is worth, the Autumn Show rules are that each model can enter 1 breed and 1 collectability class, if they are eligible for a class in each division. (See the PDF document, first page, second box, lower right side. I think it's repeated in some of the guidelines as well. :) )

Check the How-To's (http://www.modelhorseblab.com/blabpics/g4815-how-to-27s-26-tips-for-blab-online-photo-shows-26-contests.html) PDF for Uploading, Finding and Managing your photos in the Gallery (http://www.modelhorseblab.com/blabshows/HOWTO/Blab_HowTo_Upload_Manage_for_Shows-Contests.pdf). It will help you find the ones you want after you've forgotten what album they are in - a common conundrum. :grin

Yay! Thanks Mary-I wasn't sure if I should remove a couple models since they cross over and/or if I had to take new photos again for the autumn photo show. :) Definitely read my mind!

Also, for collectability can I include in the photo a vintage model with it's original box?

Honestly I need to get the collectability judges lined up, so we can get tips & advice from people who know much more about it. I think that may not be a bad idea! But photo it both with and without the box if you are photo-ing now, and we will find out more! :)

I'm very excited to enter this one! :) I did notice a little error on page 12 of the Classlists and Guidelines (pdf). It reads:

"Limited to OF PLASTIC models. OF Resin & OF Porcelain do not show in this show."

I suspect this is leftover from a previous show, since this one has a whole division for OF Resin and Porcelain ;)

Thank you so much for hosting; it looks like it's going to be loads of fun!

Some of my model photos have them with a halter/bridle (and possibly a handler - not blocking out part of the horse, though) for halter classes in other photo shows I enter. Is it okay for them to have these things in this show? I don't necessarily have photos of some of them completely 'at liberty'. Thanks.

Yes that's ok for this show, so long as they are not blocking any part of the horse, as you say. :)

Am I reading the rules correctly that if I have a Artist Resin that has been customized it has to show in the Custom division and not the Artist resin division?

Janice
10-22-2017, 07:38 AM
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that ARs that have had re-sculpting have to go into CM.

Also regarding resins: Does a North Light resin (re-painted after original sale, but not re-made) go in AR or Custom? Thanks.

Quick breyer collectability placement question: for the solid/patterned split for the breyer special run collectability, where does sabino fall? Specifically Saltire (http://identifyyourbreyer.com/images/711068.jpg) and Solar (http://identifyyourbreyer.com/images/712134c.jpg)... Thanks!

And another collectability question:

Would Shannondell models count as having more or fewer than 500 models, since the run was split between braided and non-braided? I'm also not sure on the exact total number of that run. Does anyone know that number?

Yes that is correct.

Sabino is a pattern, so it shows there. If the sabino is marginal, make a note of it in the description or comments.

http://identifyyourbreyer.com/images/712134c.jpg = patterned

http://identifyyourbreyer.com/images/711068.jpg
I haven't seen this one in person, so I don't know how obvious the pattern is. It's not really visible to me in the photo if I did not know the model. Sorry I'm not more clear about this one. Once we have judges selected, the judge can help with where to show it. :)

I feel this is a run of 1,000 total. Braided or non-braided, it's still a Shannondell. :)

Sorry - I probably made mine confusing. The first sentence was regarding RBrazil's question.

The second sentence was my own question, because I wasn't sure if North Light resins would be included as Artist Resins. My North Light resin has been repainted, but not re-sculpted. So custom is correct anyway? (Just to confirm, since I may have confused you in my first post.) Sorry.

Thanks. :-)

If I decide to enter my star variation PAM in collectability, how should I photograph her? When side on, as you would normally position a model for a photo show, you can't see the star. So maybe an extra photo showing the star in the documentation section?

Yes, with a link to the photo. Extra 'documentation' of that sort will definitely be part of collectability. :)

So long as the finish was applied after the first sale to the public, yes they go in CG.

My limited china experience is that cold painted is on reasonably equal footing with the rest in the judging, so those are treated the same.

... And is there a chance that the custom glazed china classes might end up getting split by gender? At least in Foals & Light Breeds?

Only if there are over 20 entries, and not necessarily then. If it goes above 30 we'll probably split the class.

I've noticed that no-one has entered vintage custom yet. I looked at a vintage custom I have and it has the artist's mark under a foot, but no date. I think a lot of old customs were not dated; (I also didn't used to date and sign in the early days of my customizing.) The artist of the model in question stopped customizing many years ago due to health issues. I know that the model was shown late in 2000, according to show results in an old model club newsletter from Dec 2000. I don't know when the model was customized and I don't have any earlier evidence of it showing, as that is the earliest newsletter that I have for the club. Would it be old enough to enter? (The class says pre-2000.)

Other owners may be having the same problem with their vintage customs.

Thanks.

I'd say that if it is the old R/R/R style, then yes it can definitely enter. The date is kind of arbitrary, and we may need to remove that and come up with a better description.

I started this new thread to get a bit more attention on the vintage custom division.

Note to a division entry criteria change:

OF China / Resin -

Resins painted by the sculpting artist - the rules originally directed those to the OF China/Resin division, but we are making a change. If the paint pattern is unique to the one model, the it shows in AR along with other painted AR's.

This change will be made to an updated show doc as soon as I get it posted. The stewards will help be sure that the entries are in the right classes. We haven't started actively stewarding yet, but that should be getting underway today / this weekend.

Janice
10-31-2017, 12:16 AM
I know it is hard to work out classes for a show, but I'd like to comment on the OF Breyer category of 1970-1995. I think a lot of the moulds and quality of paintwork changed considerably in 1990s. With that in mind, I think some of the models in this section that are from the 90s are much better in mould-work and paint-jobs than the ones from the 70s and 80s. Perhaps another time the class could be just 70s and 80s, and not include 90s? Just food for thought...

What is a general range of production number for Tour models? Is that known? I don't know if that is a record that Breyer is keeping, or if anyone is.

Otherwise, I'd say BrColl-10 Special Run - Solid Color - Run of 501-5,000. Should be fairly close, I would think.

Mary should we be explaining that information on each resin we put into the custom classes?

I suggest doing so, but it isn't required.

Even in breed classes, the workmanship on a CM can be a tie-breaker for a judge. Judges won't all know how the original AR looked and what was customized.

On the other hand, not being able to pick out the CM part could be a positive factor as well. :hubba

Mary, once the judges go thru and if they put any ponies in the pony pound will we have time to fix them before the actual judging?

We are going to do our best to get every eligible entry into the correct class, even if the shower is not online to make the correction. With fingers crossed, I would say that unless it is a model that just doesn't belong in this show (made of iron or something) then we'll get it entered even if we can't find you. The one exception would be class limits, if we can't find you to decide which ones to show.

Hope that explains and helps?

Oh dear.

First, check your photo size, re these guidelines (http://www.modelhorseblab.com/blabshows/HOWTO/Blab_HowTo_Reduce_Rotate_Photo.pdf). (Found in the "How To" link at the top of the Gallery, above the show.)

If you are confident that your photo is the right size, PM me with the exact steps you are taking and the response you get with each step. If you know how to screenshot the point of failure, send me that as well.

That could have been due to all kinds of things that are temporary, quite likely due to your internet provider. Momentary network bottleneck, possibly. Glad it finally worked! :)

Both my classes got cancelled today (for unrelated reasons, the profs are from two different departments but serendipitously they both had conferences starting today) so I was able to get my entries together! I was worried I wouldn't have time to get the photos taken and the horses entered, so it was a lucky break that my classes were cancelled!

Entries are closed! :grin

Now we are stewarding all classes, reviewing entries for the class limits (3 per shower), and looking at classes for possible combining of small classes and perhaps splitting certain large ones.

We don't start the judging until the stewarding is complete for the major division. More info as it comes up! :rays

Exact assignments will be updated soon, we are looking at entries and spreading the load.

Lemmons SS, Schnauzer, Faracat, FourWindsFarm, StormWarrier, and I'll probably judge some as well. We have some experienced and some newer judges, with some great experience on board. :)

Fwiw, as always, some of our judges are also showing. Judges do not judge in a major division if they have an entry in that division, even if they did not enter all the sub-divisions. :)

Well, foo. I thought entries closed the 5th, so I got up early to finish mine (since I only got one in so far). Must have read it wrong. Oh well. :bigdoh

CM Fantasy/Decorator is done! Congratulations to our winners. I wish I could give more ribbons in some of these categories. Very nice work, everyone.

*reminder-- Ch/Res and Overall Ch/Res are pulled out of classes and put under division headings. If you're missing your entry in its class, it's probably a good thing!

Collectability Pre-2000 Customs is judged.

I encourage everyone who is not so familiar with older customs to take a look at these, several from the 1980's. They are beautifully preserved, even though time has had an effect on a few things such as the braids. :)

This one especially is a beautiful model that has it all - a PAM with a head position change (notice how smoothly the neck and throatlatch are done), rehaired and repainted, shown as a Morgan mare. Done by Stephanie Robson. Congratulations to ICSpots, the owner of this Grand Champion of the division.

WOW!! Thanks, Mary and to the judge of this division! She is one of my favorites - it was love at first sight when I saw her at my first Breyerfest in 1997. I was thrilled to buy her for $50 and she is one of my never-sell models. I believe when I bought her I was told that she was the one and only CM by Stephanie.

Carriage/Sport AR is done with a champ and reserve picked! The champ is my favorite horse I've judged in the show so far, he can come live with my herd if he wants to... :lol
Congrats to my winners, it was an EXTREMELY competitive division! That gypsy class was HARD!

Thanks to my fellow judges for working hard. This was a very competitive division, often with only tiny differences between the top placing and below. The decision was difficult but I have pinned the Overall CM Grand and Res. Grand for that division. Congratulations to the winners and to all who entered.

Sorry this has kind of gone on, but we are near the end. I am completing the administrative end of tabulating the results so we can allow prize winners to select in order. We are giving prizes at the highest levels, not as deep as the summer show.

And of course we are now in the Thanksgiving holiday week ... :grin

Results info coming over the next few days!!! :trophy

Thought I'd post a quick note, re judge's comments. :)

It is very useful when judges have time to include comments, but it isn't required, and it isn't always feasible for judges to comment. Judges put completing all their classes first, and if they can manage it, they'll include comments. But if they don't have time, we don't want to overload the time they can give to the show.

We all appreciate the many comments that judges have offered over the Blab shows! Thanks judges! :rays :writing
