Other people are going to post movies that are actually in release now ... oh well ...

This movie is a huge favorite of mine, and I think it still has a lot to say. For the times it is quite frank about the details of a rape with the forensics available at the time.

IMO supporting actors George C. Scott and Eve Arden make this movie work for Jimmy Stewart.

I find the women characters in the movie fascinating in the context of the late 1950's. Eve Arden (Maida) is sterling as the independent female legal secretary. Her character is such a contrast with the character of the female lead Lee Remick (Laura,) another brilliant performer. Maida is independent and doesn't need men. Laura is making her way through life on her looks. In spite of her bombshell presence, she also has a sort of naive innocence that makes one wonder if Laura is really prepared for the big world. How Lee and Eve use their body language, voice and presence to communicate the past and present of their characters is really interesting.

The excitement factor is all intellectual. This movie has lots of walking and talking but no running.

Favorite line: "You can't fire me until you pay me." Eve Arden to Jimmy Stewart

Perfect for a quiet late evening with plenty of popcorn.
