What OF model have you had place, or WIN a class (with more than two entries) at a live show that you feel honestly didn't deserve it?

Did you respect the judge from that show (please keep the show anonymous)?

Did you go back the next year to that same show (providing it was held again)?

I'll go...

What OF model have you had place, or WIN a class (with more than two entries) at a live show that you feel honestly didn't deserve it?

I once had an ORANGE plastic mule with a black mane and tail get second in a large (about 16 entries) longear/exotic class. And yes, it did earn a NAN card. This thing was from one of those toddler plastic farm animal sets. I put it on the table as a joke since it was the only longear that I had at home, and I knew the class was already full.

Did you respect the judge from that show (please keep the show anonymous)?

It was only the second time I saw the person judge, and to that point they had shown some knowledge of the horse and it's relatives.

Did you go back the next year to that same show (providing it was held again)?

Unfortunately, I don't think funding allowed the show to be hosted again.

I used to have a conga line of Breyer Freisians. I showed two of them at South Florida live a few years back. The leopard appy and the sorrel. I had good documentation for each but the mold isn't worthly of NAN cards IMO. They were the only ones in the class so they both NAN'd because there was nothing else on the table. :uh

I went to a show where a bay pinto Breyer standing stock horse foal went all the way to foal champion when the division was packed with Stone weanlings---many that were beautifully finished!

I heard someone ask the judge why she placed that foal so highly and not any of the weanlings, and her response was that she "just didn't know what to think about the weanlings," because in her "real" life she was "a dog judge"! No further explanation than that!

I have been to that show many times since, because it is close to me---but also, I just don't get too crazy about judges anymore---it isn't worth my energy to worry about (and frankly, most judges I show under are great!).

I can answer most of these! I had two Hartland 11" Arab models place 1st and 2nd because they were the only 2 in a Hartland class! I don't remember the judge or even what breeds I chose! I may have just had them as Arabs. I think one of them was a Silver Sulton or something. Yes, I've been back to the show....I just generally leave the Hartland Arabs home. I love them but they are a bit strange!! :)

I've got one. A few years ago I had the Stone equilocity slight-fcm arab "Max" win an arab class for collectibility. I think he's beautiful and he always does well in breed. This was one of those double-judged classes, and imagine my surprise when he won collectibility! I was a little embarrased, even, since I could hear the whispers behind me of "what!?" "that!?"

I've been back to the show several times, and they always have different judges. I don't think I've actually seen this particular judge since.

The CM Kennebec Count that won RESERVE at Breyerfest. Hideous mold... plain paintjob... totally didn't deserve it...

Heck... when Kennebec's were placed OVER Flash (one of which was a GORGEOUS Riderless).... :P

IMO, if I take it to a live show, I think it deserves to win. I don't bother packing junk.

Although I did successfully enter and earn a placing with a plastic "Chicken Run" action figure (Babs the hen) wearing a Western Hat...in Western Pleasure! It didn't win though.

Dawn Kuchar entered a bag of trail mix in Open Trail...it too, placed, but didn't win.

I know that I have placed OF horses in a way that has surprised people. I'm a fan of the older mold Breyers and chunky stock horses. I have been known to place Lady Phase's and CQH Foals over ISH's and Weanlings. I have also placed the PAM over PS Arabs, since the PAM is one of my favorite molds!

a lot of it comes down to judge's preference. well, assuming they aren't playing favorites (which I definitely do not!).

I once had a regular run Belgian Wixom place either first or second in a collectibility class. She frequently is mistaken for Molly Macguire, her shading is lovely!

I wanted to say "Waiiit!" but of course by the time I got my horse's placing the next class was already set up. I thought it was best to just keep it on the DL at that point.

Oh, I have a Gem Twist (foxhunter set) with a collectiblity card from a RR Breyer class! It was my two horses and a third or something - no one else decided to show any of theirs!

I also have a Loza Pinto Pony with several NAN cards. Of course, I do show him with a card that states that this is a horse shaped object and the mating is from unknown origins. It certainly fits but he's UGLY.

Try watching a Sherman Morgan not only win a big Morgan class (second was a Kennebec...the judge totally overlooked 3 or 4 NICE Flashes) but go on to take OF Champion (over far worthier horses). Now, I know some folks really like Sherman and he does make a decent Morgan...but please...Flash is still the better horse in my opinion. And the Kennebec should have never even seen the ribbons since he's got a load of conformational issues.

The show was recent but if it's held next year I'll probably go again, however, if that particular judge is judging, I will be avoiding the divisions she's assigned to. I try not to get fussed about judges, but the last couple years seem to have brought more than the fair share of bad judging and it's getting a little old.

My by Best Choice Sham won an Arabian class, and placed 2nd in the bay color class....

Yeah, I still respect that judge as she's a good person overall, just not an Arab person.

That was the last year that show was held, but I would have gone back.

The only time I've not earned a placing in a class with a horse that I really felt should do well was when my near dead mint as a factory horse gets Ivy League didn't place at all in a class, but an Ivy League with an obvious LARGE paint flaw WON the class. I lost a ton of respect for that judge after that, and probably won't show under her again.

A good old mold PAM should always, ALWAYS place above a PSA--He's a tube bodied, big muzzled wanna be arabian, while she's a decent mare, a bit short back and she's butter fat, but a far better arabian.

Not my horse but I saw a glossy charc FS win a large mustang class in breed with far better molds and realistic colors on the table. It was my first live show and I was kinda like uhh ok...most collectible wins breed also?? Same show different year, my glossy charc FS which can be documented as the 1970 version due to mold marks according to Youngs book, did not place in the 1970-current glossy class even though I had the documentation to show why it was in that class and why it was fom that period. The judge said it still should have been in the older class as that's when the run was from and when the actual model was made didn't count. Uh wtf???? I had other showers agreeing with me when I questioned it. The show no longer exists. I would not return even if it did and I could still afford to show. Too many bad experiences there. The mustang judge I would not show under again. Every class was judged that way. The other I have shown under and do ok as I've learned what she likes but some of it doesn't make alot of sense to me how she judges.

My glossy no-muscle clydesdale stallion has more NAN cards in Breed than he ever got in collectibility, at shows with separate collectibility divisions.

At multiple shows, under multiple judges no less.

Anyone remember that copenhagen Running Mare that won National Champ Morgan at NAN several years ago?
