Do you know if they are being found at Kmart or something Liz? I might have to call around in the morning and see what I can find.
It is lovely if this is a SR for Australians now that they are starting to stock Breyers in the stores. :D Its awesome to see the company recognising the collectors here. :D

oh what a great idea! Maybe if someone is nice enough to find them for us they can be mailed to a central location (of course more than one across the country) and then we can divy them up. I would be fine having one sent to you guys and they paying you to ship to me if you were willing to do that!! :woohoo

HAHA! I won't knock original Phar Lap if you don't knock Kennebec Count...or the Proud Arabian Stallion! What color is your Phar Lap test?
EDIT TO ADD: I'm presently wandering around the Target Australia website...will post again if I find pix of the Phar Lap! The Aussie web site does not have a search feature like the US site.

Well, I couldn't find anything on the Target Australia page. They don't have a search feature like they do on the American website, and the online shopping link directs you to phone your local store with your order. Online shopping is for Australia and New Zealand only. I looked through all 32 pages of the current ad circular, and found nothing.

lol, i will do my very best to find them for you guys!! I would love to have one too, I do say that it is fantastic for a change to have a SR that I can get!!! lol
I remember all the silver fiasco, and we couldnt even buy a breyer in a store back then, let alone a special model!
Just be aware guys if you do want one of these guys they will be more expensive than you usually pay. We can't get a Salinero here for less than $80 Aus in stores, but I havnt got anything from Target yet so I can't be sure of the prices they are charging. :D

Wow $80 AUS is like $71 US! I can't believe you have to spend that much $$ for a model! Maybe we can ship models there in return for you finding this guy then..... even with shipping to you it would still cost less. Wow that is sad you have to pay so much.

Which store did you get these from Liz? The Target people here in QLD think im nuts talking about model horses in yellow boxes! lol, and I am sick of going.. no not My Little Pony, no.. not a Dinosaur.. lol!
So it would be nice to be able to say.. oh look see this store has it! ask them what it is! lol
I really want to get one of these models, its silly being an Aussie SR not in QLD! :P
I will only ship one model to one address, I wont do multiple models in one box simply because it becomes too hard to find a box big enough.
Wait until Monday when I can get a shipping quote the cost may end up being too expensive and if so I can take the ones I have bought back to the store.
I have three on hand now they had at least another 8 out on the shelves. Elise this was at Tea Tree Plaza Target I can get one for you also if you wish?
Here are a couple of photos not the best sorry!

I really apollogise and I hope you guys can understand, putting myself though uni can be hard with this hobby! lol, and I would love to sell them to you for cost, and if I could have been able to find more than 2 extras then I would have.

You know I want one!
Im glad he is $45 though and not $80 even though Ide prob pay it
OK  this is turning out harder than I thought! I have had more people ask than I'm going to have copies for. :thud
As I am going to have to buy so many, instead of leaving the funds in my paypal account I'm going to have to withdraw them to put the money back on my Visa so I will be using Paypal's exchange rate, which is of course not a true market exchange rate so it will increase the cost a bit.
So please wait until Monday when I have a shipping price and final figure. If the final figure with the shipping does not make you :thud and you still want one PM me again and I think the fairest thing is to put everyone's name into a hat. I don't want to pick and choose and I don't want a first come first serve because I always loose out in those instances being in a totally different timezone!
Please don't anyone get mad at me or otherwise upset with me if there is a chance or you don't get a copy. If it looks like that is going to happen I wont do this, I don't want it to turn around and bite me on the butt or cause me undue stress that I really cant cope with right now.
I'm sorry I cannot get one for everyone but I am sure they will come up on eBay too so there will be other opportunities. :)

I've been following this thread and of course I'm in Australia too. I don't get into our largest regional centre where there is a Target store very often so I don't know whether any Phar Laps have been sent to Western Australia. I'm hoping that sometime next week I may be able to get down the "hill" to visit Target. Now before anybody gets their hopes up, I will have to tell you that Western Australia is the end of the line as far as merchandise goes, we frequently miss out on the goodies other States have. But I certainly will try and see if there are any in stock here. Wouldn't mind one for myself either! So fingers crossed ...

lol! That is fair enough Rosemary. I will have to go look at the box number tomorrow, but I will be posting one or two to ebay tomorrow for those of you who are looking for one. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on some more to get to you guys, but for now this is the fairest way to do it. :D
I just got home from college today for the holidays (dad picked the models up for me, love my dad!) and I must say they are absolutely gorgeous! Very well shaded and a lovely red chestnut, I can't believe how much it looks like him - uncanny!
I have mine out of his box, so I will be taking a heap of pics in the morning for those of you who want a better look! But those I am selling will be kept in box, so no need to worry bout that. So yes, I am glad to say that he is out there, and gorgeous!
Here is a link to a dealer on eBay selling them with more info about them....
http://cgi.ebay.com/Breyer-horse-Phar-Lap-Lonesome-glory-just-released_W0QQitemZ330189724438
His model number is 1407 I cant find anything about him on the Breyer website.
OK here's the deal! Please read carefully, no need to speed read take your time! :)
These amounts are in $AUS at first.
Model $50.00, shipping $30.10 (1-1.5 kilos weight, check costs at www.auspost.com.au ), packing BT size box $2.85 bubble wrap, tape etc. round up to $5.00 total amount $85.00AUS. Using Paypal's currency converter at today's rate that equates to $78.00 U.S. however I am going to round that up to $80.00 U.S. to cover any fluctuation in the exchange rate and if I make a couple of bucks out of it then that helps cover my car expenses and my time packing all these guys up!
So the terms, if you are still interested:
* Cost will be $80.00 U.S. I can only accept NON CC Paypal no other form of payment will be accepted sorry.
* Only one model per person and I will only ship one model in each box.
* I ask that you not hold me responsible for the quality of the model, I wont open boxes and wont pick and choose, you get what you get.
* I cannot accept any responsibility, loss or damage during transit. If you want things like insurance, tracking, proof of delivery etc. then you will have to ask for this and these services cost extra.
I think I have covered myself everywhere?
If you still would like to get one of these guys through me (and I totally don't mind if you don't :) ) Please send me a new PM with "Australian Phar Lap" in the subject line, if I get more PM's than I can get models for I will draw names and notify those that were drawn via PM and give you my paypal details.

Poor Western Australia. It's just like the Quebec of Aus, except they speak English! Make sure you go right into the metro area Rosemary - we have a Target, but it's only Target Country, and they're not stocking any Breyers at all. Seems to be only city stores.

Would you agree to send one to France, please? I would die for having him in my LG conga line :bow

I'm an Aussie. I just heard about the new Phar Lap before going interstate on Friday. On Saturday I checked at "Target Central" in Melbourne, which is one of Australia's largest cities...and no Phar Lap, (unless he wasn't with the rest of the Breyers...)! I will have a look at him at the store Liz has suggested - if she hasn't bought them all in the meantime... otherwise I guess I'll have to see him at her place!
Here in South Australia I have checked for Breyers at several Target stores and they don't seem to have them at all stores. I will have to do a Phar Lap search now!
I have been collecting Phar Lap stuff since about 1979 and have seen the real Phar Lap a number of times. For the 'purists': this model is good, but it is not completely Phar Lap. I think the colour may be a bit dark from the pix I've seen and the mold appears to be a stallion (I don't have a Lonesome Glory); Phar Lap was a gelding. He also had a rather long, straight back and a slightly roman nose. Nevertheless, it is a lovely model and probably a better representation than the old one. I was wondering if they'd ever get around to doing a new version, so I'm glad they have at last.
Now to get to see/buy one before they all take off back to the US!
Cheers,
Janice.

I must admit though, (and have to eat my own words a little) that the model does look a good deal like Phar Lap in this black and white picture:

Hi guys, I meant to go up to Target today to buy some more but I received some upsetting news about Tayla's CT scan results and I just wasn't up to it. I have only received 5 confirmed requests for models and I already bought 3 so I am sure there will be at least two left I will endeavour to go up there tomorrow after work. I will PM and confirm to those that I have models for just give me another 24 hours please.

Liz, I'll give you a call. I just saw your message when I went to post this message.
The address also gives a good little outline of his story for those who want to know more...except for one thing: they are pretty sure now, through modern research, that Phar Lap wasn't killed, but died from a bacterial infection which had not been identified back in those days. His symptoms were very much like more recent horses that have died from this disease. Apparently it can be contracted after long spells of travelling. It helps take the blame off his beloved strapper, whom some had blamed for accidentally overdosing him with his tonic, and Americans, who were under suspicion for poisoning him!

Hi Karen,
no, I was away in Melb on the w/e, so tried there. I haven't looked in any Adelaide stores yet and I rarely go 'into town'. Let me know if you find any, as my local store now only has the two 'marked' ones that Liz mentioned (unless they have more 'out the back') and I don't think the Enfield store carries Breyers at all. I might telephone and ask them...and the Elizabeth store. I'll let you know if I discover anything.
Cheers,
Janice.
I didn't keep one for myself Janice (as I had planned) or I would give you that one, I didn't think of holding one back for you to be honest and just offered up all the ones I have to people. If I have anyone not contact me in 24 hours I can give you one of the ones I have here, just let me know. I do think though that the other stores will have them even if TTP don't have any out the back. I just am not up to going around all the stores right now so what I have here is all I can do for people I'm afraid.
Janice

Don't worry, it's okay, Liz, I'm in no hurry... there's bound to be more around the place. If I was desperate I would've made the effort today. Those people who contacted you are "First in, best dressed". (I wouldn't expect you to sell me your own, even if you had kept one. I know you would've helped me out, had I asked.) :hugg I may not get one, anyway, (I'm a bit put-off by it being a stallion - I'm a bit of a purist about these things!) I'd just like to know where they're available, so I can get a good one, should I decide to. Plus I can let other South Aussies know, if Karen or I find some. :)
Cheers,
Janice.

Hi Janice,
Thanks, I was just curious to know if they had them in Adelaide. I don't get down there these days with all the shops we have in Mt Barker now like Spotlight. I was just interested as it might be a collectors piece if thery are only in Australia. :) So it might keep its value or go up in the long run.

My local target had about ten for sale and we picked one up. I didn't realise target also stocks stablemates and mini-whinnies now, as does kmart.

Well don't kow how many more will be around. I tried many Target stores and they didn't have them or were sold out. I just lucked out I think and found a store that no one had been to.
I have a couple on Ebay and then that is it, from me, as Im keeping one. Hubby has a coulpe left though, but I might just keep one of those for a trade or a body. As Its so expensive to import models with the postage prices, its more cost efective for me to use one of these.

11-27-2007, 10:54 PM
Well I have sold all the one's I got apart from the one im keeping and the one with rubs from those horrid straps, that I may use as a body. Gee those are not easy to remove either, it's a wonder Breyer don't have a better system than those straps by now.
However I could not help myself and im going to purchase the remaining 4 from the same store. :) I remember one had a broken box so I asked for a discount and got $10.00 off. But the postage cost to get to me will take care of that savings. Im not making a lot on my sales, as im undercharging for postage, and buying boxes and trips to the P.O but its been fun and a break from painting:)

As a collector of Phar Lap items in general I was happy to come
across the model yesterday and toys were 20% off so even better.
I asked an assistant in the store about the Phar Lap models and
they knew nothing about them, said there were none. Two minutes
later my other half found some in a not very obvious spot.
I grabbed two for myself, were not many there at all and the
others seemed to have minor flaws and/or scruffy boxes.

I don't know if this has been mentioned somewhere here yet, but I went into Target in Perth city today, and I managed to find a few boxes of the Phar Laps (after a second go round of the toy section). So they are in WA - or the city store at least. Hopefully this means that they are in the rest of the WA Targets as well.
Not that many in the city store - would say no more than 10 boxes, and the reason I couldn't find them at first it because they were stashed away on one of the top shelves. $49.95, and the only reason I didn't come away with one, is because I am currently a bit short on the cash :(
The one I pulled down had a few rubs - or white spots/scratches - don't know about the rest because shorty me didn't want to risk the whole lot coming down on my head from upsetting the wrong box :D
But at least I know they are here in WA as well now (yay!). Hopefully I will get a chance to see whether the Fremantle store has them as well.

There are about 3 target shops in my area, and i know 2 of them have breyers, only SMs but oh well... :)
saw phar laps in two of them too- mine is lovely- only a slight (very slight) fingerprint on his flank but I was looking REALLY hard- the box was pretty damaged though.... didnt matter- i picked the best of the lot= the rest had a few paint scrapes and dots here and there..... *crosses fingers* I hope target imports more traditionals!!!!!! dont think it will happen but one cant help but wish!!!

He's an Australia only exclusive through their Target stores; done on the Lonesome Glory stallion mold. But he's even very hard to find there! If you're wanting to get one, your best bet would probably be eBay Australia, but be prepared to pay some big bucks for him!

I beg to differ: he isn't that hard to find here, if you are in one of the capital cities. (At least not here in Adelaide.) Some stores sold out, because collectors bought them in large numbers to sell to other collectors who couldn't get to a store, or who are outside of Australia. I was told the city store was sold out, but I've seen two or three there since, on a high shelf, even though they had no other Breyers. Originally I saw about 6 in each store I went to. (I got around to several stores on my side of town to check out what other Breyers they might have - not all stores stock the same.) My suggestion is that, if you have an Aussie friend, see if they'll help you get one. It would certainly be cheaper...By the way...that's not an offer to ask me - I've already done some helping! ;)

Hi everyone,
I just seen a few Phar Laps at a store in Perth, so if you would like one, please PM me or email me at catabywarmbloods(at)gmail(dot)com with your best offer on him (please realise postage to the US is around $30US for 5 - 10 day delievery). I do have one that I have IN HAND, NIB, untouched on MH$P that I have up for $100 - but please feel free to make me offers and the whatnot and talk to me about what you want and what you can do.
Thanks guys,
~Sam

I've noticed that they've now started to 'run out' in the stores around my area. I bought the last one at each of two stores recently, for other people...a friend's sending them to the US, I believe! :) Anyway, Breyers in general were almost sold out at one Target store, (which had lots before Christmas). They weren't sure if they were getting any more, but thought they might, considering how well they sold! I'm hoping!:randommil

I'm pretty jazzed, I have a truck driver buddy here in the states who just happens to be from AU.. Well, he's back in AU right now, and long story short he picked me up a Phar Lap so I won't be paying those 2nd hand prices. I just can't wait to get this pretty boy in hand, Phar Lap is my all time favorite movie! Its like waiting for Christmas, haha
:woohoo
Janice and I did pick ups and sold all ours for cost price we didn't make anything on them.
I do have one I kept for myself though when someone didn't go ahead with their purchase. I may offer him up for sale soon to put towards our trip to the U.S. slush fund! ;)
Just in case anyone is still interested I just listed my Phar Lap see the OF sales forum here for link or MH$P :)

I have my personal one on MH$P also, open to offers:)
This is the first one I have had up for sale the rest were pickups I did for others. :wow I didn't realise you sold 14 of them Karen! :thud I will sell mine for cost price still but making $20 would make it a nice round figure too.
Oh and my price includes shipping! ;)

Yes, was a lot of work and running around. Was not much in it after all that, probably would not bother doing it again. But I had fun at the time..
I got them from Elizabeth Target, up past you:) Couldn't find them anywhere else.

I've sold a few around Australia (I bought 6 of the 10 near me) and kept one for me too :) hehe
I think 10,000 were made, he's quite lovely in person! And are selling fast- I nearly yelped when picking my Phar Lap- i picked a perfect one (well- perfect from the viewable side anyway!) and set him aside, delving into the boxes and separating into good, moderately good etc.... (boy the security guy had fun watching me separating plastic ponies in boxes for twenty minutes...hehe) and a young girl picked up the most LSQ Phar lap i had found!*mental shriek* She ran to ask mummy, and (THANKFULLY!) her mum said no, so she put him back! WOOT! :) So, I counted my blessings that day....hehe...all six of them.... :) They're going quite cheap (IF theres any left- I havent found one yet but have only tried 2 stores!) Target is (was?) having a toy sale and this would bring him down to $39.99 if there WAS any left... aussies- time to pick up the phone and call target! lol :)
I've still got people wanting them, but sadly I havent found any remaining...... :'(
But A HEFTY THANKS to breyer- we dont get this opportunity very often! Having a SR all to ourselves :) hehe
