View Full Version : Getting in shape...
Lately I've been trying to get fit and in shape, but I have a hard time getting the motivation to get out and go for a run or a bike ride. So I thought what if we use this thread to post how long/ how many miles we walked/run/worked out at the gym/etc.
I didn't do anything today, so does anyone want to start this off?

:) i'm in the "getting in shape" zone right now, so i'll go.
i walked 3 miles this morning, lifted some weights, walked 3 miles, then did a short yoga workout.
i'm switching back and forth between American Idol and Shimmy right now, and i like what i see on Shimmy (workout show on Fit TV) so i might do that workout later tonight.
every Monday i go to a wonderful long yoga workout at my chuch and i'm going to start up again at my dojo to start doing UFC-style training again. i may even start doing groundwork, exciting! :yaymiller

My husband and I go on walks almost every day (save for rainy days or uber busy ones) We walk on a trail that is behind our apartment and goes up into some fields and through woods if you want to go that way, or just between fields, and it's really nice. It's about a 45 min walk (the normal route). The land belongs to Penn State..they have a little trail set up and some plants in one area etc.
In the evenings after the walk we usually do crunches and lift weights. Usually do about 200-400 crunches and various repetitions of weights. (didn't do those yet tonight though)

Joshua and I go to the gym Monday, Wednesday and either Friday or Saturday. Beyond the basic weight training we do sprints, frog jumps (looks dumb, but are SUPER hard when done properly!) or Rocky-style running up and down the stairs in the basketball stadium (all the way around the arena).

I walk an average of 20-30 a minutes a day at about 2.2 MPH on my treadmill, plus my physical therapy exercises consisting of ab/arm and leg strengthening on an exercise ball. I often can't push the 30 minute mark or I start to back slide and too much walking outside on uneven surfaces gimps me up as well.
I am frustrated because I *want* to do more, I'm not where I want to be recovery wise yet, but if I do too much, even simple gentle stuff, my pain level shoots way up.
Next weekend I'll be in the pool for Jess's birthday party, I'm hoping that goes well. The last time I tried it the water resistance was really uncomfortable.
Of course, now that summer is on the way, I'll be spending more time outside with my plants and mowing my lawn. I'm hoping to be able to ride my bike as well.

Monday I ran 1.5 miles. Yesterday I unloaded 34 large landscaping bricks (5 at a time, lol), 10 50-lb bags of potting soil, and a medium sized back of river rocks out of the bed of the truck and stacked it all in front of our garage.

Monday I did 20 minutes of pilates. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I walked around the city for a good 2-3 hours :) Today hopefully I'll do some power yoga!

Lifted weights for 45 minutes, and walked elliptical 1.70 miles in 50 minutes :) NOT my hardest day, but :uh :) I like weights more than cardio :neener
I usually do some cardio every day, and lift weights every other day :woot
:cheer
Well, I go into the warm water therapy pool 2x a week. I am the youngest by about 40 years, but I find it pretty fun.
Yesterday, I must have pulled my bow about 50 times on my horse. Its 25 pound, (I know, for a bow, it is nothing) so I feel pretty good that I am still able to move my arm today.

You do archery on horseback?? That's WAY cool!!
I do water aerobics for 45 minutes 3 or more times a week. I do archery (with a 20 or 30 lb bow, I forget which) whenever the weather and my timing works. So far, that's been 4 days this week. I'm up to 24 shots a day, but I'm not super accurate, yet. I am hopefully going for a lesson next week, so hopefully I will get some pointers on how to improve my accuracy.

My sister and I rode the stationary bikes this morning. I have the recumbant (sp?) ones. I also have a bow that I shoot occasionally. It's 75 lb, but I have it cranked down to 60.

I recently started walking on Wednesdays. It isn't much, but it's a start. Plus I do light housework throughout the week, so that helps.
The best thing to do is take it slow and build up, eventually you get the confidence you need & start thinking "Hey, this isn't so hard. I can do this!"
I got to start marching band yesterday. I LOVE marching band, I can actually tell One time at band camp stories...anyways...We marched around the track playing "March Gradioso". Then it started raining again so I haven't done anything since.
I've only worked out once since coming back from the U.S. :1hammer I miss going for our walks but the seasons have changed, it's cold and wet and gets dark before I get home from work! :sigh

I've been sucking, got bogged down with school. Hopefully I can elliptical tonight and get some cardio/yardwork done over the weekend.

I went for a 35min hike/jog yesterday morning before work. It's definitely something I want to keep up with every other day! I also have trails very near my apartment, and need to start using them now that the ground is dry enough to safely traverse. The paths are pretty narrow with steep dropoffs!
I can't jog up the hills yet, but that is a definite goal!

i slacked off this past weekend real bad (but it's so much fun to eat bad-for-you food with good friends!) and it took me a couple days to get back on track.
so 6 miles for me yesterday, and another 6 today. it takes my son and i 2-2.5 hours to walk, but we enjoy sitting at the boat house feeding the ducks and geese halfway through our walk. today we ate our lunch there. :)
i hope the hot can't-do-anything-outside weather takes its time to get here! :greenangr
