NAN is the National Model Horse Show. To show at NAN, you must go to a qualifying live model horse show and place 1 or 2nd in a halter or performance class. (Green cards are halter, pink are performance.) Cards are only given out to 1st & 2nd place horses.

NAMSHA is the group that puts on NAN and governs qualifying shows. The website contains a list of qualifying shows, last year's results and other information for the public about the organization.

I would add that NAN is the biggest model horse show you can imagine: 300 entrants and 12 rings going at once! Each class is triple-judged, and each show day---the show is three days long---is about nine hours long.

Each NAN class is awarded a top ten, and each top ten has a reserve champion and a champion.

Much like any model horse show, there are good models and bad, and good judges and not-so good ones. But generally, you will see very stiff competition, and a broad range of lovely horses in all media.

NAN this year will be held in Las Vegas in August.

Shows that receive NAMHSA sanction can give out the green and pink NAN-qualifying cards. Showholders have a vote in the organization's activities, as do individual members. North America is divided up into regions, and each region has a representative who serves on the NAMHSA Board of Directors.

NAN is a lot of fun, and can be very exhausting. I have been to four, and hope to go again to Vegas.

More info about NAN will be posted in the future, keep an eye on the website. Once all the info is ready, how to enter, costs, all the dirt will be posted.

I went in 2001 and had blast (came home witha Reserve Champ too!). It's a lot of fun. If you go, bring good walking shoes.

Thank god someone finally asked this! I had only a vague idea and was too afraid to ask! :embarras: That really cleared up a lot! :)

NAN allows proxy, details should be in the packet when it's ready.

There will be annoucements to the NAN webpage and the NAMHSA Discussion list when the packets are ready. I think, in the past, packets came out in the May/June timeframe, maybe April? Have patience. :)

"Packets" are the show information booklets, Kate. They contain all the rules, entry requirements, etc. etc.

Cyberwood, shame on you for assuming knowledge again! LOL Now here's a dumb question from ME. Been five years since I did NAN- do you have to request a packet to be mailed to you, or can you download it these days?

Pretty sure you can download anything you need---I don't download anything, since the horses are assigned to classes---nothing to think about! I register and pay online, which is a piece of cake! Then I just show up for my name tags at the appointed place and time---usually the morning I show.

It is all really easy, compared to local shows! The hard part for me is keeping track of what is going on in a dozen rings! Although now that I only show chinas, it is much easier then when I showed a little of everything!
