I cant put my finger on it but I dont like the left side. For some reason the right side looks a little more real to me. I guess I think of the snowflake or blanket app pattern as a connection of white spots if that makes sense? The left side doesnt seem to have as much of a defined pattern maybe??

Did you use reference pictures? Every lacy app blanket I've seen has the edges formed more of body color spots than white cut out.

Right now, I think he looks like a really cool OF. That is, his spots are well defined and smooth. However, if you wanted him to look more real you might want to etch in hairs around the edges of his spots, since real horses don't have sharp edges to any markings. :yes That's just the feeling I get, and I could be wrong or not seeing your edging in the photos. If you're going for the OF look, it's pretty neat as-is!

OMG, you know the term 'happy accident'? I thought that was something my chemistry teacher thought up! His other favorite phrase was 'You are co-wrong!'

Thank you all for the imput. Yes..i did find a couple refrence photos but unfortunatly i could not find enough close ups of a lacy blanket, so i was kinda winging it at some points. The edges are a bit rougher than they appear, i'm just so affraid to etch the edges i'm affraid i'll ruin him....but maybe i'll have more happy accedents! Thank you thank you!

i use the back side of an exacto knife. when i use the blade side i tend to geouge the model. I got into it by roaning a couple older horses i had. I searched around on google and found some good how toos....i'll have to see if i still have those links.
Heather's Highland Lass, My first etchie, a roan sabino clyd mare. She's pretty nice in photos but up close you can see alot of her faults. But she photo shows well:)

Because Of Isabel, My second etchie. Our power went out for a week due to Hurricaine Isabel, hence her name. So all i had to do to entertain myself during the day was to etch. She came out GREAT, but she's not LSQ due to the rubs on her ears, muzzle, and hoves. Other than that she's a beauty. I had alot of fun with her!
