Default Payment lost in the mail?

    I have a question.
A few months ago, I took a commission to do some customs for a girl on Facebook (won't mention names or anything). I gave her the payment amount and all of that back in late February. Now, she doesn't have paypal or anything, so I asked if she would send the money via post. I talked to her last night, wondering why I haven't received my money yet. She told me that she had sent the payment some time back, again, via post. The problem is that I haven't received it, and I can't just give the horses to her for free. Is there anything I can do other than making her pay again?

I would have her send another payment with some sort of postal tracking (Priority Mail + Delivery Confirmation, Registered, Certified, etc). That way you both will have proof that payment was sent and have some way of tracking it. In my experience, a plain envelope lost in the mail doesn't stand much of a chance of being found.

Just as it's your responsibility to get the horse to her in good condition, it's her responsibility to get the money to you.

It stinks, but it's the only way to protect against people (not saying she's one of these) that lie about having sent the money.

She should be able to void the original payment, either stop payment on the check if it is a check, or if she has the money order receipt I think they can track it and see that it has not been paid? Maybe?

I think there's a way to get money back on a lost money order if she still has the little stub thing that came with it. I know on postal money orders, it says something about it on the stub.

Let's hope she wasn't naive enough to send cash through the mail.

Depending on the amount, if she sent a check or MO, I would hope she would have sent it (at the very least) with a delivery confirmation number so there's some type of tracking. I think the ball is in her court to prove that she sent the money and she needs to look into it further with the Post Office (for a MO) or stop payment on it with her bank (for a check) and re-issue the payment. If it's a small amount that wasn't sent in a trackable way or a way that the Post Office can research or her bank can stop payment on, then it's up to her to replace the amount.

Either way, as was quoted - it's up to her to get the money to you.
    Good Luck!

I had the same problem, I sold a PAF foal to a girl on facebook and she sent money THROUGH THE MAIL. I was like, you GOT to be kidding me. But, the money came 3 weeks later.. *sigh* Atleast she was smart enough to wrap it up in paper.

Just curious as to what happened with your commission payment that never made it to you.
    Was there ever any resolution?
