    Default Hanukkah Raffle

Would anyone be interested in doing a Hanukkah raffle? We could raffle off items on each day of the celebration.

    Well that sounds like fun!

Of course the knowledge geek in me would want a daily explanation of the celebration .

I would have loved to minor in religion but there was not really an animal science major religion minor offered....lol

The heart behind it is great!

Before doing a raffle on Blab, please pm me and let me know what you want to benefit and how you would do it. Please do some research on the legalities of raffles in the various states, as some states considering them 'gambling' and have laws against that. I haven't researched this in quite some time, things may have changed. Blab management will review and see if it can go ahead.

It has been a long time since a raffle was suggested on Blab ... but in the past there were some issues around laws in some states that class raffles as 'gambling.' Silly, of course, but if the law says so ...

Sometimes people use the word raffle in place of drawing or giveaway so the op may or may not have envisioned money changing hands for a "chance" at winning or may have thought about everyone who enters as getting a "prize". In most states gambling implies that money is exchanged for a "chance" at winning no matter what the
value of the winning item is. If people do pay as long as they receive an item of comparable value all is good.

In some states all items may need to be of comparable value
Hubby and I were always poo-pooed when we brought up raffle rules in the face of fund raising. In fact we pretty much just said no to most of them and I caught a ton of flack for buying a raffle license for one event. What is so hard about following rules folks....

Ok, I suppose a raffle's off, because I just looked up the gambling laws in my state. So what I would like to propose is a pay - per - entry show. We would close the entries right before Hanukkah and a different judge would do each day. Donations would go to support Blab and 9 different charities/groups; my local 4-H rabbit club, USARK (http://www.usark.org), Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge (http://www.tigercreek.org), Vougel Alcove (http://www.vougelalcove.org), SPCA of Texas (http://www.spca.org), Equine Land Conservation Resource (http://www.elcr.org), Italian Greyhound Rescue, North Texas Food Bank (http://web.ntfb.org/home), and a charity of the model owner's choice. The fee would be a dollar per entry per day.

Hey there Dallashorse ... really appreciate the goodwill ... if I can redirect you, the people you need to be discussing this with is Blab management. Before going public any further. K?

Closing thread ... glad some folks are interested in some sort of project, though!
